Australia on a New York clock
AUDUSD trades from Sunday 17:00 to Friday 17:00 New York, but its own news comes out in Sydney, 14 to 16 hours ahead of New York. The gap changes twice a year at each end — and in opposite directions, because Australia's summer is America's winter. That is why some times in the table are ranges: the Reserve Bank of Australia announces at 14:30 Sydney, somewhere between 22:30 and 00:30 New York, and the Australian Bureau of Statistics publishes at 11:30 Canberra time, which is Sydney time too, between 19:30 and 21:30 New York. The calendar in the widget shows today's events at their actual times.
| Window | New York time | What usually happens |
|---|---|---|
| Week open | Sunday 17:00 | Monday morning in Sydney; the pair can gap on weekend news |
| Australian data | 19:30–21:30 | 11:30 Sydney: CPI and jobs; the hour depends on both cities' clocks |
| Asian Kill Zone | 20:00–00:00 | The Aussie's home session; China's data also lands in these hours |
| RBA decision | 22:30–00:30 | 14:30 Sydney, press conference an hour later |
| London Kill Zone | 02:00–05:00 | Europe often takes out the Asian high or low |
| New York AM Kill Zone | 07:00–10:00 | US data at 08:30 |
| London Close Kill Zone | 10:00–12:00 | Includes the 4 pm London fix at 11:00 |
News that moves the Aussie
- RBA decision — 14:30 Sydney, press conference at 15:30; eight meetings a year.
- Australian CPI and the monthly labour-force report — 11:30 Sydney.
- China's trade figures and business surveys — released in the Asian morning; not on this page's calendar, but they often move AUDUSD.
- US CPI and the jobs report at 08:30 New York, the FOMC at 14:00 New York.
What drives AUDUSD
The Australian dollar is often treated as a proxy for global growth. Australia is the world's largest exporter of iron ore and a major exporter of coal and gas, and China is its biggest trading partner, so Chinese demand and commodity prices feed into the currency. It also tends to move with risk sentiment — firmer when markets are calm, weaker when they are under stress — and with the gap between RBA and Fed policy. The Asian session in ICT terms
On most pairs ICT traders treat the Asian Kill Zone (20:00–00:00 New York) as the place where the range forms. On AUDUSD it is also the home session, with the RBA, Australian data and China's figures landing inside or near it, so the Asian range can be wide on news days. The London Kill Zone often runs one side of that range, and the New York AM Kill Zone brings the US data. AUDUSD and NZDUSD usually move together, which makes them a natural pair for spotting divergence. The forex session times guide explains the Asian session, the Kill Zone converter shows it on your clock, and the AUDUSD position size calculator sizes the trade.
Frequently asked questions
What time is the RBA decision in New York time?
14:30 Sydney time, which falls between 22:30 and 00:30 New York depending on daylight saving in both countries: 22:30 in the New York winter, 00:30 in the New York summer and 23:30 in the weeks in between.
Why does AUDUSD move during the Asian session?
Because Australia's own news, the RBA and much of China's data are released in Asian hours, when Sydney and Tokyo are open and London and New York are not.
Does the club AI publish AUDUSD levels here?
No. Only the public session text — the plan's headline and summary — appears here, after the session has opened. It is not a signal and contains no levels.
