Silver's trading hours
Like gold, spot silver trades over the counter from Sunday evening to Friday 17:00 New York, with a short daily pause at most brokers from 17:00. COMEX silver futures trade Sunday to Friday, 18:00 to 17:00 New York. The physical benchmark is the LBMA Silver Price, a single daily auction at 12:00 London — usually 07:00 New York, the moment the New York AM Kill Zone opens, or 08:00 in the weeks when Europe and the US change clocks on different dates. The silver market is far smaller than gold's, so spreads widen faster when liquidity drops.
| Window | New York time | What usually happens |
|---|---|---|
| Asian Kill Zone | 20:00–00:00 | Silver is thin here; spreads are often wider than on gold |
| London Kill Zone | 02:00–05:00 | London opens; silver often follows gold's first move, sometimes with a lag |
| LBMA Silver Price | 07:00 (08:00 in clock-gap weeks) | Daily London auction at 12:00 local time, the benchmark for physical silver |
| New York AM Kill Zone | 07:00–10:00 | US data at 08:30; the most active window for silver |
| London Close Kill Zone | 10:00–12:00 | Morning moves often pause or retrace as London winds down |
| COMEX silver settlement | 13:25 | The futures settlement price is set from trading between 13:24 and 13:25; afternoon trade thins out |
| Daily break | 17:00–18:00 | Futures pause; spreads widen at most brokers |
News on the calendar
The widget lists high-impact US dollar events. Silver reacts to the same releases as gold, with one difference: because so much silver goes into industry, growth data matters more. In New York time:
- US CPI and the monthly jobs report — 08:30.
- ISM manufacturing survey — 10:00 on the first business day of the month, a read on the factory demand that uses silver.
- Retail sales, PPI, PCE inflation and weekly jobless claims — 08:30.
- FOMC statement at 14:00 and press conference at 14:30, eight times a year.
What drives silver
Silver has two personalities. As a precious metal it follows gold: the US dollar, real yields and demand for safety when markets are stressed. As an industrial metal — used in solar panels, electronics and electrical contacts — it also responds to the business cycle and to manufacturing demand, including China's. When the two pull the same way, silver tends to outrun gold; when they pull apart, it can lag. Traders watch the gold/silver ratio, gold's price divided by silver's, as a gauge of which side dominates. None of this says where silver goes next; it explains why silver can jump on a release that leaves gold almost flat.
Silver through an ICT lens
ICT traders read silver with the same session map as gold: mark the Asian range, see which side the London Kill Zone takes, then look for the main move of the New York AM Kill Zone around the 08:30 data. Because gold and silver usually move together, many use them as a pair for SMT divergence — one metal makes a new high or low and the other does not — so compare with gold today before reading too much into one chart. Check the windows on your own clock with the Kill Zone converter. Silver's standard contract is large — 5,000 ounces per lot, so a $0.10 move is $500 per lot — which is why the silver position size calculator is worth opening before every trade.
Frequently asked questions
What time is the LBMA Silver Price?
Once a day at 12:00 London time. That is usually 07:00 New York, or 08:00 New York in the few weeks a year when the UK and the US are on different daylight-saving schedules.
Is silver more volatile than gold?
Usually, yes. The market is smaller and part of its demand is industrial, so silver often moves further in percentage terms on the same news. Size positions for that rather than copying your gold lot.
Does the club AI publish silver levels here?
No. This page shows the public text of the session plan — its headline and summary — only after the session has opened. It is not a signal and contains no levels.
