When cable moves
GBPUSD — nicknamed cable, after the telegraph cable that once carried the rate across the Atlantic — trades from Sunday 17:00 to Friday 17:00 New York like every currency pair. Its own news comes from London, and two UK times are worth memorising. Official statistics are published at 07:00 London, which is 02:00 New York, the very start of the London Kill Zone. Bank of England decisions come at 12:00 London, 07:00 New York, the start of the New York AM Kill Zone. In the weeks when the UK and US change clocks on different dates, both land an hour later in New York.
| Window | New York time | What usually happens |
|---|---|---|
| Asian Kill Zone | 20:00–00:00 | Quiet for cable; the Asian range is often narrow |
| UK data | 02:00 | 07:00 London: CPI, GDP and jobs figures as the London Kill Zone opens |
| London Kill Zone | 02:00–05:00 | The pound's home session; often the first expansion of the day |
| BoE decision | 07:00 | 12:00 London, eight times a year |
| New York AM Kill Zone | 07:00–10:00 | US data at 08:30 meets London liquidity |
| London Close Kill Zone | 10:00–12:00 | The 4 pm London fix at 11:00; London desks close positions |
| Daily rollover | 17:00 | Spreads widen around the FX day change |

What drives the pound
GBPUSD mostly reflects the gap between Bank of England and Fed policy expectations, which in turn follow UK and US inflation and jobs data. Gilt yields, UK fiscal news and general risk sentiment add to it, and the pound has historically been more sensitive to risk appetite than the euro. GBPUSD also tends to have a wider daily range than EURUSD, so the same stop in pips covers less of a normal day. This explains reactions; it is not a forecast.
GBPUSD and ICT sessions
Because London is the pound's home market, ICT traders give the London Kill Zone extra weight on GBPUSD: the 07:00 London data often fuels the move that takes out the Asian range, sometimes as the false move ICT calls the Judas swing. Many compare GBPUSD with EURUSD — when one makes a new low and the other does not, that is the divergence ICT calls SMT. The article on the best pairs for ICT explains why both are favourites. Frequently asked questions
What time is the Bank of England decision in New York time?
12:00 London, which is usually 07:00 New York — or 08:00 in the weeks when the UK and US clocks are out of step.
Why is GBPUSD called cable?
The exchange rate between the pound and the dollar was once sent across the Atlantic by a telegraph cable laid in the 19th century, and the name stuck.
Does the club AI publish GBPUSD levels here?
No. Only the public session text — the plan's headline and summary — appears here, after the session has opened. It is the club's AI reading of the chart, not a signal.
