Frankfurt hours in New York time

GER40 is the broker name for the DAX, the index of the 40 largest companies on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (it grew from 30 to 40 members in 2021). The cash index is calculated from Xetra trading, 09:00–17:30 Frankfurt time — usually 03:00–11:30 New York, because Frankfurt is six hours ahead. For a few weeks in March and around the end of October, when Europe and the US change clocks on different dates, the gap is five hours and the session runs 04:00–12:30 New York. DAX futures on Eurex trade much longer, 01:10–22:00 Frankfurt in winter and 02:10–22:00 in summer, and most CFDs follow them, so GER40 has prices long before the Xetra open.

The euro-area calendar

The widget lists the day's high-impact euro events. The regular ones, in Frankfurt time with New York in brackets:

  • ECB rate decision — 14:15 (08:15), press conference at 14:45 (08:45); eight meetings a year.
  • Euro-area flash inflation — 11:00 (05:00), at the end of the London Kill Zone.
  • Flash PMIs — Germany 09:30 (03:30), euro area 10:00 (04:00).
  • German Ifo business climate — 10:30 (04:30).

US releases matter too: CPI and the jobs report at 08:30 New York land at 14:30 Frankfurt, an hour before Wall Street opens. They are dollar events, so this page's calendar leaves them out — the EURUSD page shows both currencies.

What drives the DAX

The DAX is dominated by exporters and global groups — carmakers, industrials, chemicals, software and insurers — so it responds to world growth, demand from China and the US, and the euro's exchange rate, which changes what foreign sales are worth in euros. ECB policy and German Bund yields set the cost of money, and once Wall Street opens the US session often takes over the direction. One quirk: the DAX is a performance index, so dividends count as reinvested and the index does not drop when a member pays one. All of this explains reactions; it does not forecast them.

Reading the DAX with ICT tools

For an ICT trader the useful fact is that the London Kill Zone (02:00–05:00 New York) contains the Xetra open, so the DAX often makes its first real move there — sometimes a false one that takes out the overnight high or low first, the pattern ICT calls the Judas swing. The New York AM Kill Zone then adds the ECB and the US data. Put the windows on your own clock with the Kill Zone converter; the Kill Zone guide explains the windows themselves. The DAX is priced in euros, so on a dollar account the point value moves with EURUSD — the GER40 position size calculator converts it for you.

Frequently asked questions

What time does the DAX open in New York time?

Xetra opens at 09:00 Frankfurt, which is usually 03:00 New York — or 04:00 in the few weeks when European and US daylight saving are out of step. GER40 CFDs that follow the futures trade from much earlier.

Why does this page list only euro news?

The DAX is a euro-denominated index, so the calendar shows EUR events. US releases still move it; the EURUSD page lists both currencies.

Does the club AI publish DAX levels here?

No. Only the public session text — the plan's headline and summary — appears here, after the session has opened. It is the club's AI reading of the chart, not a signal.
